History
Established in 1983
The Friendship Thrift Shoppe was established in 1983. It was formed by a group of mothers from the local school who recognized the need for families to have a place to shop reasonably to get school clothes for their children. Our logo is the outreached hands signifying that we are giving the community a hands up not a hand out. Two founding members, Peggy Manchester and Katie Duger continue to volunteer their time. Over the years the Shop has moved several times, always improving its location. In 1986 the Shop was taken over by 4 area churches, Sandy Creek United Methodist, Lacona Catholic, Pulaski Catholic and Park United Methodist. In 1989, the current location, at 6046 S. Main St., Sandy Creek was purchased. The Sandy Creek United Methodist Church held the mortgage. In 1997 another building was added to the lot to house the local food pantry and for more storage for the Shop. The Shop takes in donations. It accepts good, clean useable household items, furniture and clothing. All things must be clean and in working condition. The Shop continues to keep prices down so they are affordable for everyone.
